On 19 March 2025, GMF vicepresident Csaba Dohóczki GMF executive director Meritxell Martell and GMF member Vesa Lakaniemi and collaborator Doug Bamsey participated as speakers at the Baltic Nuclear Energy Forum, which took place in Gdánsk, Poland, from 18 to 22 March. We had the opportunity to dive deep into the benefits and challenges faced by residents and local governments living in the vicinity of nuclear power plants — with a specific focus on tourism, health, and local entrepreneurship. GMF presented inspiring case studies from Hungary, Finland, Spain and the United Kingdom, showcasing how municipalities have responded with community-oriented solutions.

The need for transparent communication, long-term planning, and active community participation in decision-making processes is crucial.
