GMF General Assembly 2021

The GMF General Assembly was held on 14 October with representatives from Belgium, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and the UK. The invited speaker from the IAEA, Mr. Horiguchi, also gave a brief overview of future IAEA activities involving local stakeholders.

Some of the main outcomes of the Assembly include:

• A new working group will be established in GMF on decommissioning and socio-economic development to respond to members’ need to exchange knowledge on how municipalities should prepare for the nuclear power plant shutdown.
• GMF members intends to contact the European Commission and the members of European Parliament in order to convey their message that local communities are being  left out from nuclear decisions taken at the national level and affecting their territories in some EU Member States.
