The first Joint IAEAICTP Nuclear Stakeholder Engagement School was held in Trieste, Italy from 25–29 Nov 2024, kicking off with a panel discussion “Nuclear Power: Meeting the Challenge“, where the GMF Executive Director Meritxell Martell participated together with Charles Oppenheimer (Founder & Co-Executive Director of the Oppenheimer Project), Aleshia Duncan (Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Cooperation in the US Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy) and Stefano Monti (President of the Italian Nuclear Association and the European Nuclear Society), moderated by Jeffrey Donovan (Communication, Outreach and Stakeholder Involvement Officer in the IAEA Department of Nuclear Energy). The panel was open to the public and discussed opportunities and challenges in expanding the use of nuclear power worldwide, with a focus on social license.
