GMF offers a platform to:

• facilitate and promote the exchange of information and experience among municipalities with nuclear facilities with regards to emergency preparedness, public engagement in nuclear matters, socio-economic development, radioactive waste, etc;
• provide competences to local communities to effectively participate and make sound contributions to the decision-making processes regarding nuclear matters at the national level;
• establish relationships with representatives of European and international institutions (European Commission, European Parliament, European Economic and Social Committee, International Atomic Energy Agency, Nuclear Energy Agency, etc) to ensure that the voice of the local level is taken into account at European and international instances.
